Description
A view of the amphitheatre is given, indicating its actual state and including the cross section, interior and ground plan, as well as the elevation. Statues are still in situ in front of the third storey.
Above the amphitheatre is the inscription: Amphitheatri Veronen, diligens et accurata delineatio, quod ludis publicis, gladiatorio muneri, et fararum venationib. exhibendis, Imp. Caes. Aug. suasu, post bella civil. pace Pop.Ro. terra mariq parta, /nobilissima colonia Verona, opere rustico, in foro boario extra Urb. moenia, aere publico collocavit. Unum omnium quae nobis antiquitas reliquit, Civium perpetua diligentia, et quantum humana ope praestare/ potui, magis a temporum iniuria praeservatum. Anteriorem enim porticuum partem, quam alam vocant, ingenti terremotu quassatam, anno salut. MCXVII corruisse annalibus Veronensium proditum est.
In lower right in a scrolled panel is the inscription: Romae Anno MDLX/ Anton. Lafrerii Sequani formis/ ad genitivu archetypum fidelissime/ expressa.
