The volume Bn 12 is described in Fa 4 as : 'Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae in loose sheets being points of ye most famous remains of buildings, amphitheatres, temples, columns, triumphal arches, mausoleums and statues in Rome - engraved by Lafrerius, Barlachus, Aen. Vicus and others'
Description
A restored view of the Pantheon is given, including an inaccurate version of the inscription on the architrave, to be found in ILS no. 129, CIL VI 896. In the foreground in the front of the Pantheon are a sarcophagus in the form of a bath, which stands on legs decorated in relief with a garland and mask (shown twice, from the front and the side); a statue of a lion lying on a base, the sides of which are covered in hieroglyphics (also shown twice, from front and back); on right a large vase with twin snakes as handles and nude females in relief on the body. The front of the body of the vase is missing and in the gap is written the following: Labrum/ ex porphy/rite et ducs/ ex ophite Leones/ Aegyptiis notis illustres, ex prosximis ut opinor/ Agrippae ac Neronis ther/mis, in celebriorem et/ ampliorem locum, pii/ Pontifices Maximi, ne/situ sqalloreve iace/rent, propter Panthe/um erigi colloca/rique iusse/ runt.
In the centre of the lower edge: Ant. Lafreri/Romae 1549
Above the whole Pantheon is the inscription: PANTHEUM ROMANUM NUNC MARIAE COGNOMENTO ROTUNDAE NOTUM AD ANTIQUAM SUAM EFFIGIEM ET FORMAM EXPRESSAM.
In the centre of the lower edge: Ant. Lafreri/Romae 1549
Above the whole Pantheon is the inscription: PANTHEUM ROMANUM NUNC MARIAE COGNOMENTO ROTUNDAE NOTUM AD ANTIQUAM SUAM EFFIGIEM ET FORMAM EXPRESSAM.
