Content (description)

A section through the octagonal building is shown, its central cupola supported on columns which surround a sunken area. In this sunken area is a sarcophagus in the form of a bath tub. On left is the entrance portico, approached down a flight of steps.
Beneath the whole engraving is the inscription: Balnei Laterani, et in eo, ad curandam Constant. Caes. Elephantiasim, in/ noxio infantium sanguini suscipiendo primum parati Labri, ac mox conver/ sa in pietatem crudelitate, siusdem baptismo destinati, simulachrum. Romae/ANT. LAFRERI. EXC.
