Content (description)

The view shows the Colosseum on left, the Arch of Constantine on right, with the Meta Sudans in between. At bottom left there are a few broken columns and there are figures in the foreground driving a cart, herding cows and riding a donkey.
On a fluttering fillet heldi by two flying putti is the inscription: ANTIQUUM AMPHITHEATRUM FLAVIUM ROMAE ERECTUM VULGO COLOSSAEUUM OB NERONIS COLOSSUM ILLI APPOSITUM/UNA CUM TRIUMPHALI ARCO MAXIMI COSTANTINI ex typographia Matthei Gregory de Rubeis in Foro Agonali ad Signus Typis, Originalibus suis Aeneis noviter ad lucem aeditum, et delineatum a Josepho Tiburtio Vergelli Racanaten etc Anno 1691. Cum privilegio Summi Pontificis et Superiorem Licentia.
