Content (description)

A view of the Colosseum, the Meta Sudans and Arch of Constantine is given, including several figure groups and two small bridges in the foreground across a ditch. An explanatory note on the Arch of Constantine and the Meta Sudans is included. Below this are three subordinate panels, in which are shown a reconstructed view of the Colosseum, a ground plan and plan of each storey and finally a section across the middle of the amphitheatre to show a view of the interior.
Beneath the Colosseum is the long inscription beginning: PROSPETTO DELL'ANFITEATRO FLAVIO, FABRICATO DA VESPASIANO IMPERATORE, TERMINATO E DEDICATO DA TITO SUO FIGLIOLO DETTO VOLGARMENTE IL COLOSSEO DALLO SMISURATO COLOSSO DI NERONO CHE GL'ERA VICINO SU L'INGRESSO DELLA VIA SACRA.
