Description
Eleven details of figures and animals:
1. A small goat stands to right
2. A nymph with billowing drapery rides two sea-horses to left. A putto swims in front through the waves.
3. Dionysus reclines in a chariot, which is drawn to right by two centaurs.
4. A nude warrior drags an Amazon (or perhaps a male figure) from a horse.
5. A small tubby boar with a fillet round its belly stands to right. Two putti fight over a butterfly, each holding one of its wings. (= Bb. 13. 21)
6. Two females support a youth, who sits on a draped rock with a dog by him on the ground. A draped maenad on right leans on the shoulder of one of the women and watches. On far right are pillars and vases.
7. A youth and a half-draped nymph recline on a skin at the foot of a tree. Pan plays the pipes on rocks on left, while another Pan plays the double pipes on a rock in the distance on right.
8. A half-draped nymph tends a round altar on left, while Silenus, with a vannus on his head, leads up a ram from right by a tree and a pillar surmounted by a vase.
9. Two nude youths recline on a skin, one playing the double pipes. On a rock on left stands a putto with two arrows on his shoulder. On right are a tree and a thyrsus.
10. A half-draped nymph and a youth recline on a skin on rocks. She holds a jug on her knee; he has two vessels and pours liquid from one into the other. There are trees on left and right.
11. A bearded rustic sits and holds a boar by its hind leg in front of an altar table; he reaches for a jug. On right the statue of a female (?) stands at the foot of a tree, from which hangs an oscillum. (Scene from a garland sarcophagus in Museo Nazionale, Rome: inv. 106429)
