Description
Content (description)
Round the top of the bucket runs a band of astragals. Beneath it is a broad figure scene, for details of which see Bn. 14. 40. Beneath the figures is a frieze of leafy branches, with birds perching on alternate ones.
[In centre, view of vase with handle raised. Within handle, the following inscription:Vas antiquum/mirae magnitudinis solido ex/ Hyacintho Granato Punicei/coloris elaboratum, et incisum/figuris pluribus, Venetiis spectabile/ in thesauro S. Marci.]
[Beneath separate illustration of handle at top: Vasis manubrium argenteum antiqui pariter operis.]
[Below vase: ILLUSTRISSIMO ATQYE EXCELLENTISSIMO DNO PETRO ZENO D. MARCI PROCURATORI]
[Beneath, in panel: Dedicatory address, which includes the information that the vase was brought to Venice from Constantinople and that it has been carefully drawn 'ad mensuram prototypi'
