Description

Content (description)

The relief, which is of East Greek type, has an architectural form and tapers towards the top. Two pilasters, one at each side, support a frieze with two rosettes and a central panel and, on top, a pediment with a pater. In the central panel of the frieze is a wreath with the inscription O / AHMOS; the panel is also flanked by further Greek inscription: EMYP/ MARN (?)
Between the pilasters is a figure scene: in front of a wall stands a female by the side of a pedestal on right, on which stands a winged figure playing a pipe. Two girls flank the female, one on left holding a heart-shaped fan. There is a tree on right in the background. Beneath this relief is a further Greek inscription.
Inscribed beneath it all: SMYRNAEUM MARCELLINAE ANTISTITIS MONUMENTUM/ ex marmore albo purissimo, longum pedibus Venetis II 1/2 altum VII/ Patavi in aedibus Patinianis MDCLXXXVII.
