Content (description)

In centre is shown Achilles on Scyros among the daughters of Lycomedes. The central group is flanked by groups of soldiers with two half-draped old men seated.
On left Achilles sits holding his lyre flanked by two females and with a dog at his feet. A warrior blows a horn in the background right and a nurse stands to left with a vase at her feet.
On right Achilles stands in the centre, now armed, while a servant fits on his greaves. On left are Ulyssess and two soldiers, on right a nude youth and a soldier. In the background are two horses.
This engraving shows the front and the two short sides of a sarcophagus of Greek type.
Beneath the engraving, which is three pieces of paper stuck together is a legend, the first and last parts of which have been written in ink, the rest engraved:
ILL.MO DNO MEO OBSERVABILI/ VOLUMNIO BANDINELLO/ Bernardinus Capitellius D. Sarcophagum illum niciphagi diadematis, quo ex Vaticanis eruto fundamentis Burghesiu Suburbanu incrustarunt.....(thereafter the usual dedicatory effusions)
