Content (description)

In centre Pluto drives his quadriga to left carrying Proserpine with him. A female figure rises among the horses and three putti play around her. The horses leap over the figure of Tellus and a bearded male. On left stands Hermes and two draped females. On right a female kneels on the ground by a basket of flowers and raises her hand, brandishing a rod. Three putti play around her. On far right Ceres drives to left in a chariot drawn by two dragons, with a putto as charioteer.
Large inscription beneath which begins:
ILL. MO EQUITI DNO MEO OBSER.IL/ OTTAVIANO MARTINIO/ Bernardinus Capitellus D. Thereafter follows a dedicatory address which records the sarcophagus in the Villa Medici.
