Description
On a hexagonal foundation, in which are cut three large oval openings, rests a low triangular base with concave sides. On this stands a large shallow basin, supported on three animal legs and a central pedestal. The basin is decorated with fluting round the bottom and a frieze of figures, perhaps a marine thiasos. Three handles are set below the frieze. In the basin stands the statue of Silenus. He leans on a tree trunk with his right foot raised on a low pedestal and holds across his knee a wineskin, the contents of which cascade into the basin. Fragments, plants and trees are set in the background.
