Content (description)

The statue is shown from its left side. On the base in a panel is the dedicatory inscription, as transcribed at Bn 12. 71. Two coats of arms are set in the top corners, presumably details of those on the rounded ends of the base.
Inscribed across the top: VISITUR ROMAE IN CAPITOLIO.
Inscribed in scroll panel on left: PAULUS III/ PONT. MAX./STATUAM AENEAM EQUESTREM/ A S.P.Q.R ANTONINO PIO/ ETIAM TUM VIVENTI STATUTAM/ VARIIS DEIN URBIS CASIB. EVERSAM/ ET A SIXTO IIII PONT.
