Description
Content (description)
On the lid, two strigil panels flank a central panel, which is empty. At each end is an acroterian decorated with a half-palmette rising from a cushion-like object. On the body of the sarcophagus there are relief panels at each end and in the centre with strigil panels between. In the central panel, draped Venus (headless) on left embraces Mars on right. He wears a cloak and helmet and holds a spear and shield. They stand beneath a shallow arch supported by two columns. In the panel at each end a warrior wearing a cloak and helmet stands turning to look to the centre. By each on the outside stands a horse with foreleg raised.
