Description
Content (description)
26: front. At each end of the front is a lion head above a cluster of acanthus leaves. In the centre two scantily-draped putti, one carrying a thyrsos and crotola, the other an upturned vine cornucopia, move to right towards a tall pedestal, on which rests a goat's head. On right of the pedestal a half-draped maenad plays the double pipes, her body violently twisted to left. On right two putti move away from one another; the one on right holds Pan pipes and a pedum, the other perhaps a tympanum. Between their feet, respectively, lie crotola and a satyr head with a pedum. On left a draped maenad with crotola and a nude putto with a pedum face one another. Two baskets of fruit stand on the ground by their feet.
27: right end. A nude putto holding a vine cluster in each hand moves to right towards a tree, in the branches of which a vine is entwined, and at the foot of which stands a tall basket full of grapes.
28: left end. A winged putto with a cloak round his neck and holding a pedum on his right arm, treads grapes in a shallow vat decorated with an ivy tendril and waves to right.
