Fa 3 no. 169
Description
The base is shown opened out , to give the whole of the relief decoration, which consists of three ecstatic maenads. Wearing flowing draperies, they dance on tiptoe. The one on left moves right, carrying an ivy wreath and gazing upwards. The one in the centre moves left, holding a sword or long knife behind her head in her right hand and the hind quarters of an animal (deer?) in her left hand; her breasts are uncovered and she seems to wear a cap of some sort. The third maenad on right moves right, wearing a wreath on her head and holding a thyrsos.
