assigned by cataloguer
Very similar to Bn 14. 58, which was in the Medici Collection (added in pencil in Sampson Catalogue: 'Pembroke Coll. (1962 Sale?)' and 'Wilton'
Description
At the bottom of the relief in the middle is a low projection. On left a youthful Hercules, nude, sits to right on a rock covered with a lionskin. He holds a quiver by its strap with his left hand on his knee, his right hand rests on his club (?) by his side. In the background is a bare tree trunk with four fruits at the end of its one branch. An enormous snake coils round the trunk. On right a draped female steps on to the projection, holding a branch, which bears three fruits, on her arm. She faces Hercules and raises her right hand in front of her face.
