Relief (?): sacrifice in front of a temple
assigned by cataloguer
Palazzo Spada
Description
The relief (?) seems to be based on the Nike pouring a libation from the Citharoed reliefs. In the foreground a draped female steps to left in front of a round altar, on which a fire burns; she holds a patera in her left hand and raises a jug on high, pouring its contents over the altar. A draped girl moves from left behind the altar, holding an incense box. Rocks rise in the background and partly hide on right a pedimented building, of which three columns are shown in front of a masonry wall.
