Comments
In Arthur Dobbs, 'An Account of the Countries Adjoining to Hudson's Bay'. This map is part of the argument that ensued between Arthur Dobbs and Christopher Middleton. Dobbs was a wealthy Irish Landowner who challenged the Hudson Bay Company for their lack of action in trying to locate a North West Passage. Expeditions sent in 1737 and under Middleton in 1741 failed to find a Passage. Suspecting foul play on the part of the Company he launched a tirade of attacks, this map being one of them. La France was an Indian fur trapper who switched from serving the French to the Hudson Bay Company.
