A new and exact map of the dominions of the King of Great Britain on ye continent of North America containing Newfoundland, New Scotland, New England, New York, New Jersey, Pensilvania Maryland, Virginia and Carolina....
Early outline colour
Wtih manuscript title to the verso of the map. This famous map is known as the 'Beaver Map' after the scene on the map displaying beavers building a dam with Niagara Falls in the background. It is one of the first important maps of the eighteenth century to reflect the conflict between the British and French desires for land in North America. It is published just two years after the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht which saw France ceding Nova Scotia, claim to Hudson Bay and much of Newfoundland to the British.
