The roundel shows a barbarian in profile to l. beneath a leafy branch. Around the edge of the roundel is inscribed: Haec imago in imo vasis fundo extrinsecus conspicitur.

In pencil, on the mount is written: Portland Vase dal Pozzo. The engraving appears to be from a drawing by Cassiano dal Pozzo of a drawing of the Portland Vase
