Description
Silver gilt bowl of a cup, stem and foot missing
Comments
This silver-gilt bowl of a cup is now missing its stem and foot. In the centre of the bowl is a Renaissance-style helmeted head in relief.
The cup was presented to Eton College by a Fellow, William Clavering, in 1612. This piece, together with one of the Savile Flagons and the early 17th-century Steeple Cup, were used for many years at the church of Worplesdon in Surrey. They were taken to Worplesdon by the Rev. Thomas Chamberlayne, Fellow and Vice-Provost of Eton, who served as rector of the parish from 1791 until his death in 1801.
