Plain silver gilt communion cup (chalice) and paten
Comments
'A third chalice [in the Eton College Collections], with a paten-cover (1653-4), is inscribed with the name of the Rev. John Barker, sometime scholar and Fellow of Eton, who died in 1624, thirty years before the vessels came from the maker's workshop. The discrepancy in the dates is attributable to the fact that his bequest of £10 "to the quier of Eton for a standing bowle and silver doble gilt to be for the service of the blessed sacrament" was not available or expended at the time.'
