Comments
The maker of this panel is the Michael Rust Studio, Kent, founded in 1986. The company has described its methods as follows: ‘creating individual sculpture designs which are drawn and then carved, as well as lettering based mostly on the use of the broad edged brush or pen, before being transferred to the wood or stone and hand cut with chisel, mallet and gouge'.
The panel was commissioned in 1988 by the British Memorial Committee for Leopold III, King of the Belgians. The patron of the committee at that time was the late Major General The Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, Kent.
