Italian gilt-metal mounted red painted and parcel-gilt processional cross, in Baroque-style, late 19th century, the cross with Jesus centred by a starburst surmounted by a banner with inscribed letters, each end with a scallop shell, above a globular acanthus leaf carved stem

Comments

The letters “INRI” are initials for the Latin title that Pontius Pilate had written over the head of Jesus Christ on the cross. The English translation is “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”
