Comments
Lady Charlotte Bonham-Carter's gift of this necklace, as well as the matching earrings and tiara fitting, is recorded as follows:
'Charlotte had inherited an impressive diamond necklace. This she decided to give to Eton for the use of the wives of successive provosts, as she considered that while the provost himself has official robes, his wife had none. The then provost, Lord Charteris must have been amused; and held a very large and entertaining supper party in Charlotte's honour at which Lady Charteris wore Charlotte's gift.'
