Comments
'Non-Existent Existence II' is a striking red glass sculpture by Jinya Zhao (b. 1994). Raised in China, Zhao completed her BA at the China Academy of Art before moving to London in 2017 for her MA at the Royal College of Art, where she is now pursuing a PhD. Her research explores the fluid interplay between materiality and perception, using opaque and translucent glass to construct sculptures that challenge conventional notions of interior and exterior. By embracing the inherent unpredictability of molten glass, Zhao creates enigmatic forms with unexpected intersections, pushing the boundaries of spatial awareness and sensory engagement. Her ongoing doctoral work further investigates how environmental and cultural contexts shape the perception of form, transparency and dimensionality in glass.
