Description

Tudor oak bench, single plank rectangular top on two bracket supports carved with inverted Ionic capitals and the Tudor rose

Comments

In about 1625, one of the Fellows, Thomas Weaver (c.1574–1650), presented benches and desks for use in College Chapel. At this time the Chapel was the only church in the parish and the benches were intended for the townspeople to sit on. Two of Weaver's benches are now here in Election Hall.
This is one of two similar benches. For a further similar Tudor bench in the collection, see: FDA-A.260-2013.
