Description
Dish form of mixed clays, painted decoration, hollow with opening at one end
Comments
Pottery made with clay from the earth has been an art form as well as a way of making objects for daily use in almost all cultures. Professional contemporary artists and many amateur potters now create studio pottery using a wide range of forms, processes, and decorative techniques. Instead of the traditional method of 'throwing' on a wheel, the ceramic artist Ewen Henderson (1934-2000) favoured a patchwork approach to hand-build pieces from different types of clay, mineral glazes and oxides, inspired by ancient cultures, geological forms and patterns in the landscape.
