'A. T. B. DUNN MEMORIAL.
On Saturday afternoon, November 29, in the presence
of old pupils and other friends, a Brass in memory of
A. T. B. Dunn was unveiled in the Ante-chapel, during
an interval between those football matches in which he
always took so keen an interest, and often a prominent
part.
The Provost, after unveiling the Brass, spoke a few
words, which those who- were present will never forget.
He described Arthur Dunn's earnest and lovable charac-
ter, and his devotion to duty and loyalty to Eton,
and further his efforts to promote games among the
young men and boys of the poorer parts of London,
not only with a view to their physical improvement,
important as that was, but as being morally healthy.
He mentioned the Fund which was being raised in
memory of Arthur Dunn for the purchase of the
freehold of a playing field for such Londoners—a
Memorial than which none could be more fitting.
Finally, the Provost dwelt on the significance of this
ceremony being held in connection with St. Andrew's
Day, the lesson of which had long ago been given by
Cardinal Newman in a sermon preached on that anniversary,
and entitled "The World's Benefactors," the
point being that amongst the truest of these would be
found many who had been a blessing to others, but who
yet had made no noise in the world, and had left little or
no record.
The inscription on the Brass is as follows :—
