Identification
Wall Cross
assigned by cataloguer
Wall cross, with shiny white glaze with pierced and incised marks and a central raised brown cross
This cross relates to Gordon Baldwin's four crosses for Eton College Lower Chapel, which are mounted within the arches of the south wall. It is one of two versions not displayed within the Chapel. The design is similar in size to those used but it is thicker and, unlike those at the chapel, glazed. It may represent an early study for the Lower Chapel crosses, when Baldwin was experimenting with different designs and finishes.
