Comments
This work is thought to be number 171 in the catalogue of the Eton Loan College exhibition, held at the College in 1890. The catalogue gives the following information:
'Eton College from Black Potts. Water colour. By W. EVANS. This view shows the ell-pots belonging to the old fishery of the College, which was frequented by Isaak Walton (see No. 44). The picture belonged to Mr' Thomas Catchelor (d. 1866), the Registrar of the College, who was tennant of the fishery, and a great authority on fresh water fishing; famous also for the fish breakfasts which he used to give annually to the 16 senior Collegers.
