Comments
Why this work is labelled 'J.M. Dyer's' is not clear. John Maximilian Dyer (d.1925) was born in Texas and educated in Germany. He became a mathematics master at Eton and served as House Master at Coleridge House from 1904 to 1910. However, this precedes Mabel Spurrier's first arrival at Eton in c.1915. It may be that house continued to be known as Dyer's after his departure.
The building was demolished in 1937 and an extension to Hawtrey House built on the site. A similar view of the house by Nora Davison can be seen in the Verey Gallery exhibition.
J.M. Dyer was House Master at Coleridge House, Eton College, from 1904 to 1910.
