William Daniell completed the eight volumes of his monumental Voyage Around Great Britain in 1825, and seems to have turned his attention soon afterwards to a series of views of Windsor and Eton. This view of Eton from the river was published in 1827 as the eleventh of twleve plates in Daniell's Select Views of Windsor Castle. The amount of activity on the river is reduced in the print, particularly on the right-hand side around the college wharf, with its adjacent building demolished in 1844.

Content (note)
This watercolour shows the east front of the college from the river. The building to the left, surmounted by a lantern, is the college kitchen, still in use. On the right is the college wharf to which all heavy goods, including books, were delivered; it no longer stands. This view was reproduced in aquatint.
