Comments
Between 1808 and 1922 Ballards was home to four generations of Eton Drawing Masters (Heads of Art) from the Evans family. In the late 1850s and early 1860s, it was also used as accommodation for around six boys at a time. Before the Drawing Schools opened in 1924, boys may have been taught art in the smaller building, with no south-facing windows, seen here beyond Ballards. Davison would have been acquainted with William Sidney Vernon Evans (1866–1949), the last Evans family Drawing Master, until his retirement in 1922.
