Painted view of a courtyard buildings and figures; sculpture surrounded by railings before a central tower
Comments
Two boys cross School Yard, passing the 1719 statue of King Henry VI, founder of the College, by the sculptor Francis Bird (1667–1731). The railings surrounding the statue remain in place today, but Nora has also painted railings and shrubs in front of the red brick Lupton's Range. These no longer survive.
This view is made from about the same position where Nora Davison was photographed painting in c.1935. The photograph can be seen reproduced in the Verey Gallery exhibition.
