Comments
Davison’s view is painted from outside the House Master’s front door at Jourdelay’s House, with Gulliver’s boarding house glimpsed to the right. Gulliver’s was a small boarding house from the early 18th century until 1937. In the covered passage that connects the houses to the High Street are two plaster casts of part of the Parthenon Frieze. It is believed that they were installed by classical scholar Hugh Macnaghten (1862–1929), House Master of Jourdelay’s from 1899 to 1920 and later Vice-Provost of Eton.
This view is taken from just outside the Master's entrance of Jourdelay's boarding house, looking towards Slough Road.
