Comments
Son of the 5th Duke, he was elected M.P. for Midlothian in 1853 and succeeded as Duke in 1884.
George Richmond (1809-1896)
Richmond's graceful fluent draughtmanship was particularly suited to the chalk portraits he made so popular. Cheaper than oils, they lent themselves to establishment portraits such as those executed for the Grillions Dining Club. Balston, Head Master 1862-1868, commissioned 19 chalk Leaving Portraits which were bequeathed to the College on his widow's death in 1907. They form the last full set of Leaving Portraits in the College.
