Comments
In exceptionally hot weather, William was given his expenses by Mr Telford for five days in early May 1868, to paint in the grounds of the Hotel adjoining Lord Brougham's 'Chateau Eleanor Lousie', named after his only daughter who had died in 1839. Lord Brougham, an old friend and parent whose many interests included education, died on 7th May, and William noted that day, 'he was the making of this place. Made a careful study of his Villa at Cannes'.
