Comments
These illustrations were made for a page of 'Happy New Year', a Guinness promotional Christmas booklet, written by Stanley Penn and published in 1957. The text relating to the upper illustration reads:
'KNIGHTMARE
An armour-clad knight, cap-a-pie,
Attended a fancy dress spree.
It was very bad luck
That his vizor got stuck
When they handed round Guinnesses free!
Note: Some authorities claim that this was a Youn Man of Dundee which makes the incidence even more poignant.'
The following text accompanies the lower illustration:
'SWALLOW DIVE
A mathematician named Hurst
Drank Guinness completely immersed-
'I'm proving,' said she
'H2O [underlined]
Me
+ G = Me - THIRST'
NOTE: The symble 'G' stands for Guinness but we hardly think you will find it neccessary to get under water to enjoy its thirst-quenching properties.'
