Comments
William also bequeathed portraits of 'my late sons William and George by Richmond' to Sam. Only one record is found in Richmond's Sitter's Book, 1841, when Richmond had just come back from Italy, for a 'Mr Evans' chalk at £15.15, his set fee for Leaver's Portraits. Young William Vernon Evans sailed with Bishop George Augustus Selwyn for New Zealand straight after school at Eton, only to die of typhus on landing in 1842. However here the age of the sitter matches that of the artist when in his prime, not his son.
William Evans abandonned his medical training to succeed his father as Drawing Master (Head of Art) at Eton College.
