Title
Italian Landscape with a River and Tower
Comments
This Italianate landscape incorporates real and imagined elements, with a tower perched on rocks by a lake, mountainous background against a romantic evening sky, and tiny figures in a boat and a horseman. It is in the tradition of the capricci produced by the eighteenth-century artist Marco Ricci, some of whose landscapes painted in tempura were owned by Sandby.
