Comments
With the increase in river traffic, swimming in the Thames became more of a health hazard, with several cases of polio.
An appeal was launched among Old Etonians to raise the necessary funds for a new outdoor swimming pool. The idea for the design was drawn on the back of an envelope by Oliver Van Oss, Assistant Master 1930-64, with the actual designs drawn up by architect David Hodges (KS, 1933). The pool opened in 1956.
