Comments
This watercolour shows Hodgson House with its later, simplified façade. The house was intermittently used as a boarding house between 1844 and 1978.10 With dwindling numbers of boys at the start of the Second World War, it was closed and then requisitioned to house WRENs between 1941 and 1946.
A glimpse of the building to the right shows the window of the bookshop for Eton boys, which has been on this site for over 200 years. Davison regularly exhibited her watercolours here on the Fourth of June and St Andrew’s Day, Eton’s two main open days, when the shop was run by the firm of Spottiswoode, Ballantyne & Co. Ltd.
