Comments
This watercolour shows two tapestries on display at the far end of the hall. On the left is 'Christ Teaching in the Temple', while to the right 'The Flight into Egypt' can be seen. The Royal Windsor Guide (1838) explained:
'On the anniversary of what is termed Founder's Day, and on some other occasions, the hall is hung with curious ancient tapestry.'
They had been given to the College by Adam Robyns, a Fellow, in 1613. Sadly, the tapestries were destroyed by fire in 1875.
This watercolour was produced as an illustration to Ackermann's 'The History of Eton College' (published 1816).
