Description

Half-length drawn portrait of a man in a white shirt

Comments

Roger de Grey and Oliver Thomas knew one another as boys at Eton. This was not the first portrait of de Grey made by his friend Thomas. As Thomas recalled:

'There is a [1937] portrait sketch of me and another of him by me painted within one day in the oasthouse studio at Plaxtol, each of us painted for half an hour and each sat for half an hour. I doubt if either of us had more than three half hour turns.'

Both works are now in a private collection.
