Comments

This attractive Georgian house is still very recognisable today, although the 19th century stuccoed frontage is now painted blue. It is named after the Old Christopher Inn, the neighbouring building to the right (just out of sight). St Christopher’s House was a boys’ boarding house until 1901. Today it is used as office accommodation.
This painting was once owned by artist Sir Robin Vere Darwin (1910–1974), who lived in St Christopher’s House while he was employed as an art master at Eton during the 1930s. The red brick building to the left is called Gulliver’s and under the archway it is possible to make out two relief plaster casts from sections of the Parthenon Frieze.

This work was formerly owned by Robin Darwin, who served as Drawing Master (Head of Art) at Eton College. St Christopher's House in Eton was Darwin's residence while he worked at the college.
