Samuel Austin was primarily a watercolour artist most famous for his coastal scenes and landscapes. Born in Liverpool, he lived much of his life in this city and was closely associated with the Liverpool Academy. He must have travelled to Europe around 1829, as from this date he showed a number of paintings of landscapes and towns from Northern Europe
