Comments
This 12th-century knocker was originally on the northern door of Durham Cathedral, but has been replaced by a replica and the original is on display in the cathedral. It is known as the Sanctuary Knocker or Sanctuary Ring because a criminal rapping the knocker could seek 37 days of sanctuary within the Cathedral.
