This print was a plate in the 1862 publication 'Monographie de l'oeuvre de Bernard Palissy: suivie d'un choix de ses continuateurs ou imitateurs' by Alexandre Sauzay (1804-1870), a monograph on the French Huguenot potter Bernard Palissy (c.1510–c.1589).
'Grossesse de la Nymphe Calisto et Enlèvement de Proserpine' (or 'The Pregnancy of the Nymph Calisto and Kidnapping of Proserpina') is an example of Palissy's polychrome lead-glazed earthenware from the collection of a Mr Arondel.
