Comments
The son of Sir Archibald Edmonstone, Bt., for many years M.P. for Dumbartonshire. He was sent together with his brothers to Eton in 1775, having spent three years at Westminster. He was in Sixth Form in 1789. In December 1779 he had been admitted at Lincoln's Inn, and was called to the bar in 1788. From 1797 until 1807 he was one of the six clerks in Chancery. He represented Dumbartonshire and later Stirlingshire in Parliament.
